Buchan's Blueberry Hill

The other evening I think I woke up Debbie and as she couldn't get back to sleep she went into her office to do some work. This made it possible for her to not go into work the next day. We thought about what to do with the day and came up with a few ideas, all of which revolved around U-Pick natural farms in the area.
But we'll get to that story in a minute.
Here we see Sophia in the morning, taking a lil' nap.

As we debated where to go, Debbie took the kids out back. When I heard her call for me with the camera I rolled out to find both kids in the sandbox. This was Sophia's first time, as best I know, in the sandbox.

Here Sophia is modeling this wickedly cool one-piece zip up jumper. A cross between Elvis and Abba this amazingly cute bit of gear was actually Debbie's, from when she was a lil' lady.

Mutant flower.
Droopy flower...
Ok. The farms we found on the Peninsula all turned out to have suffered due to the unusually cold summer. There was one farm that was rocking and rolling and that farm is called Buchan's Blueberry Hill. About seven miles up on Peninsula Drive it is located so close to the water's edge that it is all you see when you get to the storefront.
Sometimes living up here you do forget how beautiful the area is and all you have to do is drive about seven miles north and find yourself in a different world.
We pulled in, hopped out and got our instructions: drive down, park in the shade, pick from these twenty rows, come back up and pay. Simple.
I HAS A BUCKET
Off to the pickin'

Sophia.

I challenge any of you to find me another kid wearing a Lightning McQueen hat and a Daniel Johnston tee shirt.

Howdy ma'am

I love our little Fuji camera, but man does my Nikon take great, great pics.

Jack's bucket.
My bucket.

Finding a dandelion.
To take to Mom.

We forgot the stroller! I'll go get it!

Bigger blueberries!

Ladies and gentlemen, after many months, verging on a year, we have the RETURN for one moment only of the BURT REYNOLDS POSE! WOOT!!~

The diagonal line on Sophia's forehead is the result of her pushing off and then headbutting the DVD player. It was quite the scene.
This was the bucket Jack used for his haul. It was more of a can than a bucket. So yes, Jack had Prince Albert in a can.

Back home, posing in the backyard with one of his Triceratops.
The haul.
I used one cup to make muffins. We musta bought 12 or 13 cups. Zoinks!

  1. Wish I had been there! Photos of Sophia sleeping are so precious! These are some of my favorite photos of Jack.
