Fine Arts

Thanks to the generosity of the kids' Grandma Tish we now have a rockin' double stroller. I believe that it is called the Sit and Stand stroller. This has been a necessity due to, well, having two kids!
We got this when Mom was in town and I put it together slightly apprehensive, I mean what happens if they didn't dig it or what if Jack kicked the heck out of the back of Sophia?
Happy to report that there have been no incidents so far, and I have been trying to take advantage of the nice weather by taking the kids out.
We went to the Fine Arts Building on campus the other day, the first time for Sophia and the most recent visit for Jack.
(A slight continuity thing here, these first photos are from the day before we went to the museum)

The home of WNMC, my home away from home
So here we are, on the day we walked around campus. I stopped by the NMC bookstore to get some tea.

There it is. The cooler. Unsweetened Lipton Iced Tea all the way on the left.

"No Jack, I don't understand disc golf either. Competitive frisbee for not too lazy hippies perhaps?"
The Clock Tower.
Ahhhh....my favorite place on campus, the Fine Arts Building. It is fun to be around and fun to go inside of all year. This will sound completely insane, but I love being in the building after a fresh, heavy snow. The light and the warmth of the building and the SMELL of the building are so completely amazing.

Here we go....
This is a phone. Get your head out of the gutter, people!
In my previous trips into and around this building with Jack, we have always gone left when you enter the building from the south. To the left is a bit of hallways, nothing too exciting apart from sculpture and student projects. Being summer the whole building was empty. This was the first time that I explored the right side of the building. This was the first time I was in this section since before Jack was born. I took an Art Education class there in late 2006. I am glad we went in there and got a chance to really look around.
This is where I took that class, every Sunday in the fall of 2006.
The ceiling. Wooden early 70s art deco. Love it.

So did the kids.

Looking at the various mobiles in-between the lights.

Printing materials, dupliations, etc.

Easels.

Where and When
The hallway to the left.
Classroom door.
This is where I would sit and plot out my early radio shows in Fall 2005, when I first moved up here and started going back to school. It feels like so long ago, an entirely different world. The class I took was Music Appreciation and I LOVED it, and really enjoyed the teacher. I saw him the other day at the store and we jawed for a while. Nice times. Great memories.
The room at the end of the hall is the classroom where I took this class.
Um, the door over the women's room? I thought I posted a different pic...
And so we went home, and I had a ton of fun taking the kids to see this place. I always do.

And for family historians, check out this link, the first time I took Jack to the Fine Arts Building, man do I look young! What happened!?

  1. The amazing part of this to me is that you took a class titled "Music to Grow On" in this building during the summer of 1981. That was the summer I was pregnant with Melissa. I remember driving you there and taking you in the building when you were six years old.

You loved the music and the building then too.
